Short biography (101 words)Chris Miller is active in several areas of music: composition, improvisation and performance; event production and administration; education and scholarship. A major focus in many of these areas, and one that has informed them all, is an involvement with Javanese Gamelan. One of the leading non-Javanese performers of traditional Javanese music, Miller plays regularly with ensembles in New England and New York. Holding an Masters Degree from Wesleyan University, his thesis project was a performance/installation for Javanese Gamelan instruments and other sound sources (CDs of prerecorded material, amplified bottles). He is currently working towards a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University. PhotoHeadshot (grayscale TIFF, 600 dpi, 1.7 MB) |
